With school in full swing, it is important to ensure that your child's backpack isn't too heavy from all of that homework!

When a backpack is too heavy it may cause back, shoulder, and/or neck pain or spasms.

The following tips may help in preventing back pain caused by heavy backpacks:

  • Buy a rolling backpack, especially useful if your child doesn't have to go up/down a lot of stairs.
  • Get the lightest back pack possible, e.g. Lands' End featherweight backpack, which is lighter than most nylon backpacks of comparable size.
  • Make a copy of the chapters of any heavy textbooks, so the child has the chapters he or she needs at home and can leave the textbooks at school.
  • Download the textbook on your iPad or Kindle.
  • Buy an extra copy of any heavy textbooks and keep them at home.
  • Carry a laptop in a separate bag, such as a laptop case with a handle.
  • For musical instruments, which can be heavy and cumbersome, consider an additional instrument and/or purchasing a used instrument to keep at home.

If your child is leaning forward or to the side, or complains of back pain or numbness in his or her arms or fingers, it is likely that the load should be lightened.

Testimonials

Besides making my neck and back feel better, my legs that normally bounce all over the place at night have been much calmer since doing consistent adjustments with Dr. Pete and adding the occasional massage in before or after an adjustment. I love the atmosphere in the office and the staff are pretty dang amazing too. Debi is great to help with insurance stuff.

I'm a big guy.  My neck and shoulder were killing me.I went to see Dr. Pete.  He fixed me up.I know from experience that most chiropractors don't have the strength to give me a full adjustment.  Dr. Pete got me straightened out right away.  Nice office.

Thanks,

John

I have known Dr. Pete for several years now. He is a caring and wonderful Chiropractor. When I go for my visits he is warm welcoming and his new front office person Joy is a delight and so helpful. My last series of chiropractic adjustments were amazing. Just with my first adjustment I walked out felling better. If you are thinking about Chiropractic...Think Dr. Pete Chiropractic.
